At Independent Schools Victoria, we represent schools of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, including those with total enrolments of Indigenous students. We also represent many schools that engage with and support Indigenous communities in remote areas of Australia.
During our Arts Learning Festival, we’re launching an international program that explores issues of indigeneity, through the vehicles of artworks and cultural objects.
We’re starting a first ‘conversation’ between two art museums, the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and Museum of Fine Arts Boston, to examine issues of indigeneity in both continents. Our theme will be a Sense of Place.
The First Peoples Conversation Project will build connections at a global level by celebrating authentic stories of communities who hold the unique traditions and perspectives of the world’s first nations.
The session will focus on key works in both collections that build the idea of a Sense of Place as an introduction to this conversation.
This session will be recorded, and be available through the websites of the Arts Learning Festival and the NGV.
We intend that after this first conversation, the project will continue beyond this year’s festival.
