Do it on the Roof are green infrastructure specialists who design, construct and manage gardens on roofs and walls.
At Birrarung Marr near Federation Square during the festival, Do it on the Roof will run four student workshops a day on Wednesday 3 May, Thursday 4 May and Friday 5 May. On the weekend, they will run four family workshops a day on Saturday 6 May and Sunday 7 May.
The team is also asking people to help build a wonderful vertical garden using plastic bottles. We’re inviting people to bring along a plant cutting and a plastic bottle. At a potting station, the team will help you cut out the bottle, plant the cutting and attach it to the wall. Find out what to bring along!
You’ll also be able to see some how ‘junk’ such as old CD players are repurposed as planters, showing what you can grow in some surprising places.
As part of the Arts Learning Festival, Do it on the Roof is hitting the road in March in their green–roofed Sustainability Rover, visiting regional schools across Victoria to deliver hands-on design activities. Students will learn about native plants, biodiversity and green technology, helping to redesign our buildings and construct native bee hotels.
